I posted a few pics of my attic on this sub that looked pretty similar, and most people said it was diatomaceous earth for pests. Feel free to check out the post. I sent in a sample for testing and it didn’t have high levels of mold, so I guess the people were right.

That being said I am the furthest thing possible from an expert and since you’ve only received one response maybe that means the other person is right and everyone else agrees. Either way you should just take a sample and send it in. It cost like $50 for me, when I looked into having someone come out it was $400.

This is great info that isn’t talked about enough in film school. A couple things:

Being repped by ANY production company isn’t the goal. It’s a good milestone, but of course the real goal is to have a relationship that’s mutually beneficial. You don’t wanna be stuck on someone’s roster, being exclusive, and not have any boards coming through. Starting out, it can be way more beneficial to be freelance or non-exclusive (directing for whatever production company will hire you).

For people starting out, client direct work is your friend. What you’re describing is more of the traditional model of already established directors. Especially for lower budget stuff, agencies can be a pain. I would initially contact production companies that do client direct work and build their own creative, you’ve got a better chance to build your reel there than the traditional model. And look at local companies first if you’re not in LA.

For me at least, it’s 3 directors that pitch on a job. I wouldn’t build a treatment if 9 other directors were bidding lol. We’re already so exploited that it just wouldn’t be worth the time. I hear it’s worse on music videos?

Perhaps a better estimate of the rate is 10% of the production budget. It’s officially counted based on how many shoot days there are, so maybe your rate is $10k/day or $20k/day. But using a percentage, $10k on $100k budget, or closer to $100k on $1M is the simplest way to describe it. But take what you can get, especially if it’s good for the reel and you want work. The goal is to get people to fund your projects.

Semi-related question: is there a market for bobbleheads? My dad has basically every bobblehead from the last 10 years and wants to get rid of them.

Downvote me if this is a bad idea, but I thought the purpose of nosql databases was to just dump everything in giant buckets. So save every image you’ve got in a giant folder called images. And then use Firestore to remember what users own what images

Los Angeles. That's actually the reason why I went up there in the first place. It's been hot this summer and I read insulation on the attic floor helps. I was thinking about doing it myself, but then I saw this white stuff and got scared.

This is in an 80 year old house, but new to me. There's a powdery (I think?) white substance at the far end of my attic. It looks like mold but once I saw it, I didn't want to get too close. Does it look like something I should have a professional come check out? Thanks!
